Volkswagen Group has teased three new upcoming urban electric vehicles. The Volkswagen Group will unveil the new EVs in 2025 from Volkswagen, Skoda and Cupra. The companies will produce the new urban electric models in Spain. The German group is planning to build a new gigafactory. This is following an investment of EUR 10 billion in the region.
The new battery factory will be in Sagunto, Spain. The factory will have an annual production capacity of 40 GWh and employ 3,000 workers. In addition to this, the factory will have a carbon-neutral production, using only renewable energy. The factory is described as the single largest industrial investment in the history of Spain. The Volkswagen Group plans to build six battery factories in Europe by the year 2030.
Skoda and Volkswagen Urban EV Teasers
The entry-level EVs appear in simple sketches in different coloured backgrounds. The trio will use a smaller version of the MEB architecture. In addition to this, they will also share batteries and electric motors. Hence, the primary differentiating factor will be their design identities. According to sources, prices will likely start from EUR 20,000.
The Volkswagen’s sketch features a blue background and looks different to the recent ID.Life. The sketch looks like a smaller ID.3, which also confirms a complete redesign. An illuminated grille and emblem are visible in the sketch. Other noticeable things are large alloy wheels and rounded surfacing. The proportions of the car look like a supermini hatchback.
On the other hand, Skoda’s sketch is a stark departure from a supermini hatchback. The sketch also shows a focus on practicality. The sketch reveals boxy wheel arches with plastic cladding, a straight character line and simple surfacing. The design is in line with the brand’s new design identity. Skoda’s CEO hinted that the new EV will be different from its siblings and have several unique features.
