Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has revealed the future plans of the two-wheeler maker in India. This electric roadmap will serve as a blueprint for creating EV business structures, EV technologies and EV infrastructure in India.
A new plant for EV manufacturing is being planned by Honda. This will be located at the bike maker’s Narsapura Plant in Karnataka. According to the company, this facility will incorporate high efficiency along with maximum production value.
The Factory E also aligns well with the Indian Government’s ‘Make-in-India’ initiatives. Further, according to localization incentives, the EV Plant will make use of locally made batteries and PCU. Honda plans to develop the motor for the EV scooters and bikes in-house.
In terms of green features, the unit will have an 80 percent sustainable material usage and rely on 100 percent renewable energy. In all, the production capacity of this dedicated EV plant is expected to reach 1 million units by 2030. Honda will increase the capacity in a phased manner.
Honda is also developing a dedicated EV platform dubbed as Platform E. This will act as a base for future EV models. These will include fixed battery, swappable battery and a mid-range EV model.
Honda’s Project Vidyut is a way to meet customer expectations and demands in the age of electrification. Under this initiative, Honda will launch two new EVs in FY2024. These will include a mid-range EV and the second will be a battery swappable one with Honda Mobile Power Pack e.
To meet the growing demands of electric vehicles, Honda will be setting up these new places as a way to charge customer vehicles. These locations will not only house the charging infra but also a battery swapping unit for compatible vehicles. Initially, these will be dedicated facilities, but over time, Honda plans to incorporate them in their existing 6000+ strong touchpoint network.
Honda has already worked to get the new OBD2 compliant vehicles rolled-out. Apart from these there will also be E20 compliance by early next year.
In terms of exports, Honda currently has 18 models being dispatched to 38 countries. Now Honda plans to export to 58 countries with over 20 models in FY2024. To this end, Honda will add an additional capacity of 6 lakh units at the company’s Vithalapur Plant in Gujarat.
