Next-gen Skoda Kodiaq SUV starts road testing overseas

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Looks like Skoda has started a new phase of testing of the next-generation Kodiaq. The SUV was spotted during winter testing for the first time in Sweden. It is said that the new Kodiaq will hit the markets sometime in 2024.

What’s new in the next-gen Skoda Kodiaq?

In terms of design, the new Kodiaq follows the design language of the outgoing model. The overall shape of this SUV is somewhat similar to the current Kodiaq. That said, Skoda has made some changes to looks of the SUV. The new Kodiaq now comes with a triple blacked-out vertical slatted grille, slimmer yet more sharper LED headlamps, a redesigned bumper and a new airdam. Do note that there could be an ADAS radar sensor hidden behind the honeycomb insert.

Coming to the sides, Skoda has equipped the new Kodiaq with new design alloys, door mounted ORVMs instead of A-pillars and flush-sitting black roof-rails. At the back, the SUV gets an integrated spoiler, a shark-fin antenna, rear wash wipe, new LED tail lights and number plate mount is now on the bootlid. Further, the rear reflectors are now positioned further down on the rear bumper.

At this moment, we don’t have information regarding the interiors. That said, we can safely say that they will be of a typical Skoda. Suffice to say Skoda is likely to incorporate many ‘Simply Clever’ elements as well.

Powertrain options of the next-gen Skoda Kodiaq

Skoda is likely to offer a host of engine options on the Kodiaq. These could include a choice of turbo petrol motors, diesel options as well as a mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid as well. However, while these will be available in the international markets, we can expect Skoda to offer petrol engines in India.
