Toyota has filed a new patent at the Indian intellectual property office. The latest word mark is Innova Hycross. This leads us to believe that the Japanese manufacturer will soon be bringing the strong hybrid version of the Innova to the Indian market. Images of the next-generation Innova have already emerged on the internet, reiterating that a new variant could be in the pipeline.
Media reports also suggest that the next-generation Innova MPV is undergoing final evaluations on Indian roads and is internally codenamed 560B. In addition to this, speculations are that the brand is likely to offer two petrol powertrain options – a naturally aspirated petrol and another electrified petrol hybrid. The much popular diesel powertrain is also likely to continue on the next-generation Innova.
Currently, the Innova Crysta comes with a 2.7-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that makes 164 Bhp of power and 245 Nm of torque. The brand also offers a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine which produces 148 Bhp of power and 360 Nm of torque. The next-generation Innova could come with a new strong hybrid petrol powertrain. With the new hybrid powertrain, the new Innova will also conform to the future emission norms, but details of the powertrain are still sparse.
Toyota recently launched a new campaign which introduces a Self-charging Hybrid Electric Vehicle (SHEV) in India. Reports also suggest that the new technology will soon be available on Toyota’s mid-size SUVs, which the brand plans to bring soon to the Indian market. Thanks to the strong hybrid technology, the powertrains on these vehicles will become 30 to 70 per cent more fuel-efficient. Toyota could use the same hybrid technology in the new Toyota Innova Hycross. Thanks to this, the Innova is likely to offer a fuel efficiency figure comparable to a petrol hatchback.
