Kawasaki has unveiled the retro edition of the W800 for the international market. Under this update, the motorcycle gets a new colour scheme called Candy Fire Red. And hence, this colour features on the entire fuel tank area with some white strips to add to the touch. The side panels get a black treatment that perfectly complements the Candy Fire Red shade. The excessive use of chrome does add to the classic W800’s retro look. The engine and forks have a polished silver finish, whereas the fender, handlebar and mirror get the chrome touch. Other than this, there’s no other change, and hence the motorcycle remains the same mechanically. The bike continues with its trademark round headlight and wire-spoke wheels.
The W800 comes with an upgraded BS6 compliant 773cc twin-cylinder motor. The air-cooled engine comes with a 5-speed gearbox that makes 50.2 BHP and 62.9 Nm of torque. Braking force comes from discs set up both at the front and the rear and ABS is offered as standard. The bike comes with a double-cradle chassis that rides on telescopic forks at the front and twin-sided springs at the back. In terms of physical dimension, the motorcycle measures 2,135 mm in length, 925 mm in width and 1,120 mm in height. The ground clearance of the bike stands at 130mm. The bike also comes with a fuel tank capacity of 22 litres.
Being a retro based motorcycle of the current generation, the W800 comes with some handy features. The key highlighting ones include an LED headlight, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and an assist, a slipper clutch mechanism and more. The brand also offers plenty of chrome bits to the motorcycle giving it the true modern classic image.
In India, the standard trim of the W800 retails at a starting price of INR 7,26,000 (ex-showroom). This new retro edition will most likely arrive in India sometime next year. And we can expect Kawasaki to put a premium over the regular price. Customers looking to buy the W800 might also look into Triumph Street Twin and the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 in the Indian market.
