Reports on the web suggest that Mitsubishi is gearing up to launch an automatic gearbox variant of the Pajero Sport SUV on November 15, 2014.
The automatic variant is expected to make use of the same 2.5L, turbocharged diesel motor producing 178 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque. The Automatic variant however will be offered only in a 2WD option and no 4×4. The automatic gearbox is likely to be a 5-speed unit.
This new variant is expected to be priced lower than the 4×4 manual transmission option. Lower price should help Mitsubishi attract more people towards the SUV.
Arch rivals such as the Mitsubishi Fortuner has been driving in sales numbers ever since its launch and Mitsubishi has struggled to give a tough fight inthe segment. Noticing the success of the Fortuner automatic, Mitsubishi might be aiming to attract the convenience seeking customers with the Pajero Sport 4×2 AT.
Another reason for the poor performance is the very low dealer network. The statement “Jo dikhta hai, woh bikta hai” holds true in this situation.
