Written by Nizam Shaikh

At the Auto Expo 2020, MG at their pavilion showcased the Roewe Vision-i Concept SPV. ‘SPV’ is a new category of vehicles that stands for Smart Proactive Vehicle. The Roewe Vision-i Concept made its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show last year and claims to have the world’s first ‘5G smart cockpit’.

In terms of the exterior design, the Roewe Vision-i Concept features a closed front fascia to minimise wind drag and comes with a futuristic LED lighting setup on the front. The headlights have 3D crystalline elements and the front grille area has a light bar that runs from one end to the other, the Vision-i Concept also gets eyebrow-like LED daytime running lights and thin vertical aero ducts that flank the front bumper. The bonnet gets a see-through glass element that provides a glimpse of future technology that the car uses. The front bumper has a Roewe ‘coat of arms’ logo that takes the centre stage and ‘Vision-i Concept’ moniker on the front splitter. When viewed from the profile, the Roewe Vision-i Concept features an impressive glasshouse and powered sliding doors with facial recognition technology. Another feature on the Vision-i Concept is the optical rims which minimize wind resistance and light-up when another vehicle approaches the Vision-i Concept. The rear of the car features twin LED tail lights with illuminated ‘Roewe’ moniker in the centre and aero ducts that flank the rear bumper.

On the interior, the Roewe Vision-i Concept’s cabin features a no-screen cockpit design which is very likely to be the matured future of autonomous vehicles in the 5G era. The no-screen cockpit will make way for ‘SKY VISION’ full cabin intelligent interactive system with interaction capability and can realize the needs of the user. The cabin also has multi-scene adaptability and has a flexible seat layout. The fully autonomous car in the future will provide with different Driving Modes – Education, Leisure, Driving, Sleeping or Meeting, where the car takes over the driving part while allowing the users to do engage in other activities.

The Roewe Vision-i Concept is far from production, as of now, and was displayed at the Auto Expo 2020 to showcase the technical prowess of the brand and give them a glimpse of the future of automobiles.
