British Car brand MG, short for Morris Garages are going to unveil their MG Hector SUV on 15 May 2019 in India followed by the launch in the month of June. The MG Hector has been spied many times before as it was being tested out on the Indian roads and a lot of spy pictures that surfaced on the internet have revealed a lot about the exterior of the SUV. For a recap, the MG Hector features a split type headlight design with a large LED light mounted on the front bumper and sleek LED daytime running lights above it. A large mesh grille on the front with chrome trim bearing a big ‘MG’ badge in the centre and a faux silver coloured skid plate. A lot of silver and chrome elements are used in the front fascia. On the side the SUV gets diamond cut alloy wheels with black cladding on large wheel arches.

The information on the interiors is scarce except the i-Smart connectivity system which has a large portrait-oriented 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre of the dashboard. The infotainment system comes with an i-Smart interface preloaded with music streaming apps such as Gaana.com and weather forecast app AccuWeather, and comes integrated with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Features such as Automotive Voice Assistant which recognizes over 100 voice commands and has a voice assistant that can be activated by saying “Hello MG”. The iSmart system will get over-the-air (OTA) updates like any smartphone. In case the airbags are deployed the car automatically makes an e-call and sends a message with the location of the car to a Pulse Hub, the customer management centre, and also to other registered mobile numbers. The safety feature on the MG Hector provides 24×7 customer support in case of an accident. The i-Smart mobile application allows owners to turn on the ignition, switch on the air conditioning and lock or unlock the car. Other than this, the MG Hector has a panoramic sunroof, Harman Infinity audio system, 360-degree camera, keyless entry, push-button start and tyre pressure monitoring system etc. The MG Hector gets steering mounted controls and an engine start-stop button on the dashboard.

The MG Hector may be launched in India in two engine options:-

  • Petrol 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 141 BHP of Power and 250 Nm of torque.
  • Diesel 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 171 BHP of Power and 350 Nm of torque.

The transmission will be a 6-speed manual for both the variants along with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic for the turbo petrol variant.

Another 48-volt mild-hybrid variant is said to be on offer which is much more efficient than the petrol-only engine and will also provide more torque up to 20 Nm for improved efficiency in traffic.

The MG Hector is expected to be priced in the INR 15 lakh to 20 lakh bracket ex-showroom and will rival the likes of the Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier.
