Maruti has announced the commencement of Fronx exports from India. The first lot of 556 units was shipped from the ports of Mundra, Mumbai and Pipav. These cars will head to Latin America, Middle East and Africa.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx : More Details
The Fronx was launched back in April 2023. The price of the car starts from INR 7.46 lakh and Maruti sells this car via its premium channel Nexa. The Fronx crossover competes with the likes of Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite in the Indian market.
Fronx is offered with two engines – the lower priced variant comes with a 1.2L, K-Series, Dual Jet Dual VVT motor while the top end comes with a turbocharged 1.0L engine.
In terms of power, the 1.2L unit is good for 89.7 PS and 113 Nm. This engine is offered with a choice of 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. The turbo engine meanwhile develops 100 PS and 147.6 Nm of torque. Customers can choose from a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Only 13% Maruti Suzuki Fronx buyers choose the turbo-petrol motor
Recently, it was reported that post the price announcement, customers choosing the Boosterjet engine is just 13 percent of the total Fronx buyers.
Before the price announcement, customers were split 55-45 percent in favour of the Boosterjet. However, once the prices were revealed, the demand changed to 13-87 percent for the K12 engine.
One of the reasons for this is the price difference between the K12 and the Bossterjet. Across the variants, the Boosterjet commands a premium of INR 1,00,000. This could also be one of the reasons for the customers opting for the tried and tested K12 motor.
Those customers who prefer an automatic gearbox find the 1.2-litre + AMT a much more attractively priced option. This is in comparison to the 1.0-boosterjet + AT combo. For example, the former is priced at INR 8.88-9.28 lakh while the latter will cost buyers INR 12.06-12.98 lakh.
