Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be launched after Baleno Cross

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Maruti Suzuki will be unveiling the Jimny at the Auto Expo next month in New Delhi. Now, it has been reported that Maruti will unveil one more car. The Baleno-based SUV coupe will make its global debut as well. Everyone has been eagerly waiting for the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny.

About the Maruti Suzuki Jimny

The 7-seat Jimny looks like a baby Mercedes-Benz G-Class. The car gets forward facing seats. As the Jimny is positioned as a family car, these could offer added flexibility to families. The last row of seats are expected to be folded, which could be tucked away for that extra cargo space.

According to a media report, it has been confirmed that the Jimny will come with the 1.5-litre K15B engine. The K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine develops a peak power of 102 HP and a maximum torque of 130 Nm. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic gearbox. Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro all-wheel-drive system is offered as standard on both gearbox options.

About Maruti Suzuki Baleno-based SUV

The Baleno based SUV is nothing but the production version of the Futuro E Concept that was showcased at the last Auto Expo. Codenamed as the YTB, the SUV will get a coupe-like stance and will share the monocoque underpinnings of the Baleno hatchback. While the car will share multiple body panels with the Baleno, but will still manage to retain the unique identity of the car. Maruti might also offer the now-discontinued 1.0-litre boosterjet engine. This car is likely to go on sale in the next year, sometime in April.

Other upcoming Maruti models

Apart from these two, the Japanese carmaker plans to launch the Toyota’s Innova Hycross under its own badge and the next-generation Swift Dzire. Both cars will feature strong hybrid powertrains.
