2023 Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door will use K15B engine

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Everyone has been eagerly waiting for the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny. The carmaker has teased us multiple times, and test mules of the car have been spotted. Now, according to a media report, it has been confirmed that the Jimny will come with the 1.5-litre K15B engine.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door Engine details

In the international markets, the 3-door Jimny is offered with the K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine that develops a peak power of 102 HP and a maximum torque of 130 Nm. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic gearbox. Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro all-wheel-drive system is offered as standard on both gearbox options.

This same engine will make its way to the 5-door version that will be sold in India. The numbers – power and torque – are likely to remain the same. Maruti could possibly also offer some mild hybrid bits to get an enhanced fuel economy. This could also result in lower emissions, which helps with the upcoming CAFE emission norms.

The K15B has been a workhorse of an engine. It was on offer for a few years in India. The engine has since been replaced with its upgraded version – the 1.5-litre K15C Dualjet. While cars in India continue to get this upgraded engine, the cars exported to overseas markets, like the Ertiga facelift and the Jimny, continue to get the K15B engine.

In terms of transmission options, a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 4-speed automatic gearbox will be on offer. Maruti is slowly introducing a new 6-speed gearbox to replace the older 4-speed unit, but this will not make its way to the Jimny. It will come with a low-range gearbox as standard.

How does the Suzuki AllGrip Pro 4WD work

The driver can choose between two-wheel drive (2H), four-wheel drive high (4H) and four-wheel drive low (4L). The 4H and 4L have to be engaged when the car is taken off-road. The 4H can be used for some mild off-roading, while 4L has to be engaged for hard-core stuff.
