Maruti Suzuki Baleno manages 6 lakh unit sales in 44 months

Manufactured exclusively in India and launched in 2015, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is one of the country’s best-selling premium hatchbacks. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has now achieved a new milestone of 6 lakh units cumulative sales in 44 months time. The brand recently introduced DualJet with Smart Hybrid and Dual VVT engines in the Baleno. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is also India’s first BSVI emission compliant premium hatchback. It is one of the highest selling cars in India and in the A2+ segment, the car has a 27% market share.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno comes with features such as tilt and telescopic steering, electrically adjustable and retractable ORVMs, steering mounted controls, automatic climate control air-conditioning, push button start/stop, UV cut glass, etc. For entertainment, the car has a 17.78 cm capacitive touchscreen Smartplay infotainment system and the driver gets a two-pot instrument cluster with a central multi-information display.

In terms of safety, the base model of the car gets features like dual airbags, front disc brakes, an anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, manual headlamp leveling, dual horn and immobiliser. The top-spec variant gets pinch guard power windows, automatic on/off headlamps, reverse camera, defogger, auto dimming IRVM, front fog lamps, etc., added to the standard safety features. The model also gets new safety features such as seat belt reminder for both driver and co-driver, over-speed alert, reverse sensors and ISOFIX child seat anchorage as standard across all variants.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno comes with two petrol and one diesel engine options and their specifications are given below:-

Petrol (BSVI)

  • 1,197cc VVT 4-cylinder, petrol engine which produces 83 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual and an optional CVT automatic gearbox.
  • 1,197cc 4-cylinder, DualJet Smart Hybrid engine which produces 90 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Diesel (BSIV)

  • 1,248cc DDiS 190 4-cylinder, diesel engine that produces 75 PS of power and 190 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Maruti Suzuki also sells a performance-oriented RS model of the Baleno which is powered by a 998cc, 3-cylinder, Boosterjet, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 102 PS of power and 150 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

In India, Baleno retails from over 360 Maruti Suzuki Nexa outlets located across 200 cities and the car has registered 11.5% growth in 2018-19. The car is priced starting from INR 5.58 lakh ex-showroom, Delh.
