Mahindra Defense is now supplying the Scorpio Classic to the Indian army. The dispatch ready cars were spotted at a dealer yard in Pune. The Army has placed an order for 1,470 units which will be delivered in a phased manner.
Mahindra Scorpio for the military
While these are similar to the civilian Scorpios, the carmaker has done a lot of modifications to make them suitable for the Army. The cars are covered in a military green colour. They also come with a rear tow hitch. In terms of cosmetics, the upper portion of the rear lights is no longer offered and the cars come with black out lights front and back.
While earlier Scorpio models were offered in base trims, this time around, the vehicles belong to the higher S11 trim. The cars also bear the older Mahindra logo and not the new twin peaks logo.
Hardware could consist of 4×4 gear along with a low range box, and the trusted 2.2-liter diesel engine. Mahindra could have tweaked the power and throttle of the engine to make it as per the requirements of the military. Also, the engine is likely to be BS4.
Other changes could include usage of heavy duty components, strengthened elements, music system with Public Address facility, reading map lamps, extra grab handles and provisions for air lift of the vehicles by helicopters.
Scorpio Classic : More Details
The Scorpio Classic comes with a refreshed design, contemporary interiors, new features, built-in technology and more. Mahindra says the Scorpio brand has evolved to address customers’ needs. Furthermore, it continues to remain a popular choice for customers who want a tough and capable SUV.
The Scorpio’s 2.2L engine makes 132 PS of peak power and 300 Nm of torque. The peak torque arrives at 3,750 rpm, while the peak torque comes between 1,600 rpm and 2,800 rpm. Mahindra also says that 230 Nm of torque is available from just 1,000 rpm.
