Mahindra & Mahindra is betting big on electric SUVs. On the occasion of India’s 76th Independence Day, the brand unveiled not one or two but a total of 5 electric SUVs. All the 5 e-SUVs will also use Mahindra’s new state-of-the-art modular INGLO EV platform. The brand’s vision is to lead the electric mobility revolution in the country by bringing authentic electric SUVs to the market. These SUVs will follow Mahindra’s three key strategic pillars – Brand, Design and Technology. At the same time, the company unveiled two new brands.
New Brands – XUV & BE
Mahindra says it will bring the sport in electric SUVs alive with its two new brands. The company created these two brands specifically for its EV portfolio. The iconic XUV brand now gets the Twin Peak logo in Copper, and the other brand is the all-new electric-only brand, BE.
The XUV brand will host a range of products and will build upon the Mahindra legacy while also embracing the future. According to Mahindra, products under this brand will have a sophisticated design, pulsating performance and dynamic innovation. With the XUV brand, Mahindra is targeting customers who are passionate about living a life beyond boundaries while also making a difference. Under the XUV brand, Mahindra unveiled two products – XUV.e8 and XUV.e9.
The other brand Mahindra unveiled is the BE. Mahindra says it is bold, evocative and exhilarating. The products under the BE brand will get a new design language. With the BE brand, Mahindra will target customers who want to define their journey of life their own way while also making a difference. Mahindra says it is a brand that will let customers be who they want to be. Under the BE brand, Mahindra unveiled three products – BE.05, BE.07 and BE.09.
Mahindra XUV.e8 SUV – Highlights
The first all-electric SUV from Mahindra that will hit the market is the XUV.e8. Mahindra says it will launch the production version of the XUV.e8 by the end of December 2024. Although it uses the all-new INGLO platform as its underpinnings, the XUV.e8 is essentially an electric version of its current flagship SUV, the XUV700. At the front, it gets a whole new look with a full-width LED light bar and closed-off grille. It follows the brand’s new Heartcore design philosophy. However, the basic layout and silhouette are similar to the XUV700. Like the XUV700, the XUV.e8 will also offer three-row seating. At the rear, the design is similar to the XUV700, especially the taillights.
The brand also released the dimensions of the XUV.e8. It will measure 4,740mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,760mm in height. Meanwhile, the wheelbase will be 2,762mm. Thus, it will be longer, wider, taller and even have a marginally longer wheelbase than the XUV700. The brand also confirmed that it will get an intelligent AWD system and best-in-class technology and safety.
