2022 Mahindra Scorpio Classic revealed, 2 variants

Mahindra & Mahindra has officially taken wraps off the 2022 Scorpio Classic. When the company announced the all-new Scorpio-N, it also announced it will continue to sell the Scorpio as the Scorpio Classic. Since then, numerous reports, spy shots and leaks have suggested that the Scorpio Classic won’t be just a rebadging job. Mahindra has gone the extra mile and added a host of new features, exterior and interior changes, as well as a few mechanical changes to make the 2022 Scorpio Classic make a compelling buy.

Interested customers can now check out the 2022 Scorpio Classic at any of the Mahindra dealerships. Test drives will also start from today. However, Mahindra will reveal prices for the 2022 Scorpio Classic on 20th August 2022. 

2022 Mahindra Scorpio Classic – Variants & Colour Options

Instead of offering tons of variants and powertrain options, Mahindra is keeping it simple with the 2022 Scorpio Classic. Thus, there will only be two variants on offer – S and S11. Mahindra will offer the 2022 Scorpio Classic in a total of 5 colour options. These are – Pearl White, Red Rage, Napoli Black, D’Sat Silver and a newly introduced Galaxy Grey.

2022 Mahindra Scorpio Classic – Highlights

The 2022 Scorpio Classic gets a new bold grille and a muscular bonnet with a hood scoop. Also, as we’ve known before, the Scorpio Classic now features the new twin-peaks logo. At the front, it gets a refreshed projector headlight, new LED DRLs as well a new foglamp. Between the front fog lamps also sits a new silver skid plate. On the sides, it gets new dual-tone cladding, and new 17-inch Diamond Cut alloy wheels with 235/65-section tyres. At the back, it continues to use the tower LED taillight and also gets a new ‘Classic’ logo. 

On the inside, it gets dual-tone Black & Beige interiors with fabric upholstery. The S11 variant also gets a leatherette steering wheel with controls, front seat armrests and a height-adjustable driver seat. It also gets a wood pattern on the centre console. There is also a 22.86 cm touchscreen infotainment system, phone mirroring, and more. Other highlights include cruise control, FATC, remote central locking and more. 

To enhance the driving and ride experience of the Scorpio Classic, Mahindra has equipped it with a new double-wishbone and coil spring front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension. Both the front and rear also get Multi Tuning Valve – Concentric Land (MTV-CL) dampers.

2022 Mahindra Scorpio Classic – Powertrain

Powering the 2022 Scorpio Classic will be an all-aluminium 2.2-litre 4-cylinder 16-valve mHawk Gen II motor. Mahindra says the engine is now 55 kg lighter than before and offers 14 per cent higher fuel efficiency than before. In addition to this, the Scorpio Classic gets a new 6-speed cable-shift transmission. There will be no automatic transmission on offer. 

The engine uses an eVGT turbo and makes 132 PS of power at 3,750 rpm and 300 Nm of torque from 1,600 rpm to 2,800 rpm. Furthermore, Mahindra claims that 230 Nm of torque is available at as low as 1,000 rpm. 

2022 Mahindra Scorpio Classic – Dimensions

The 2022 Scorpio Classic measures 4,456 mm, 1,820 mm and 1,995 mm in length, width and height. Meanwhile, the wheelbase stands at 2,680 mm. The Body-On-Frame chassis, short overhangs, and high stance offer a promising approach and ramp over and departure angles. The approach angle is 27 degrees, the ramp over angle is 23.9 degrees, and the departure angle is 25.4 degrees. Furthermore, Mahindra claims it has a water fording capacity of 500 mm. The 5-door SUV is available in 7- and 9-seater seating capacities.
