Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) has launched its Made-in-India Honda Elevate in the Japanese market under the brand name WR-V. This marks the first instance of an HCIL model being exported from India to Japan, representing a significant leap for India’s automotive industry and highlighting the country’s growing manufacturing prowess and global competitiveness.
Elevate / WR-V
The Honda WR-V in Japan carries a price tag ranging from 2,098,800 yen to 2,489,300 yen. The Elevate made its global debut with India as the inaugural market to launch the model in September of the previous year, having registered sales of over 30,000 units in the past six months alone.
The Elevate is equipped with the same 121 hp, 145 Nm, 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine found in the City, delivering power to the front wheels through either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-step CVT automatic.
Unveiled as the Honda WR-V in Japan in December 2023, the model has garnered an enthusiastic response from customers who appreciate its bold SUV design, strong road presence, outstanding space and comfort, advanced safety features, and well-appointed offerings.
Honda Export History
HCIL has previously been exporting models from its lineup to left-hand drive markets such as Turkey, Mexico, and the Middle East, as well as to right-hand drive markets including Nepal, Bhutan, South Africa, and SADC countries. The export of the Honda Elevate to Japan marks the latest addition to HCIL’s export business from India.
This move by Honda underscores the company’s confidence in delivering high-quality products from its Indian operations to its customers worldwide.
