Made-in-India Citroën Ë-C3 exports begin

Citroen has announced that the French car manufacturer has commenced the exports of the Indian manufactured Citroen E-C3 to international markets. With the locally manufactured Citroen E-C3 Electric Vehicle, the company has achieved a remarkable feat, by becoming the first multinational car manufacturer in India.

Citroen – Make In India Initiative

This also reiterates with Citroen’s commitment to the “Make in India” initiative for electric mobility. Additionally, the move is also in-line with the company’s global ambitions of normalizing electric mobility. This will also help Citroen increase the adoption of sustainable and clean modes of transportation, in India as well as abroad. It is also aligned with Stellantis’ Dare Forward Mission 2030.

The first Made-in-India Citroen E-C3 shipment was ceremonially flagged-off today from Kamarajar Port. The initial shipment consists of 500 cars which are being exported to Indonesia. The Honourable Consul General of France in Pondicherry and Chennai, Lise Talbot Barré, flagged off the 500 car shipment from the Kamarajar Port, located on the Coromandel Coast, about 18 km north of Chennai Port.

Citroen’s move to produce electric vehicles in India for international exports showcases the Indian-French industrial cooperation. It also reinforces the mutual commitment of both the countries towards achieving cleaner mobility at the global scale, said the Head of Consulate. The Consul General also added that, the beginning of exports of Made-in-India EVs also transpires the core ambition of the strategic partnership between the two countries. This was also already highlighted in July by the French Minister for Ecological Transition, when he came to Chennai for the G20.

Citroen E-C3

Recently, the Citroen E-C3 found itself in hot waters as the UK based Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme), awarded Zero Stars for safety in the adult occupant protection department and just one star for child occupant safety to the E-C3. This was quite a setback for the Stellantis Group as PSA once was a leader in the safety department .

The Citroen E-C3 is also available for sale in the Indian market available for retail at 58 La Maison Citroen Phygital showrooms across India. The electric car comes with a starting price tag of  INR 11.61 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi.
