Lamborghini Huracán STO revealed, 640 HP & rear-wheel-drive

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Automobili Lamborghini has introduced the Lamborghini Huracán STO – Super Trofeo Omologata, a road homologated super sports car that draws its inspiration from the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO from the Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s one-make-race and the Huracán GT3 EVO from the three-time winner of the 24-Hours of Daytona and two-time winner 12 Hours of Sebring.

The Lamborghini Huracán STO is powered by a EURO6 – LEV 3 specification 5.2-litre water and oil-cooled motor with dry-sump lubrication, a 90-degree V-10 Cylinder architecture with continually variable intake and exhaust camshafts, MPI (Multipoint Injection) + DSI (Direct Stratified Injection) dual injection system and a Bosch MED 17 Master-Slave engine management system that belts out 640 hp of power @ 8000 RPM and 565 Nm of torque @ 6500 RPM matched to an ANIMA variable shift characteristic 7-speed Lamborghini Doppia Frizioni (LDF Dual Clutch) transmission with an electronically controlled Rear-Wheel Drive system and a mechanical self-locking differential. The Lamborghini Huracán STO can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 3.0 seconds, 0-200 kmph in 9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 310 kmph.

The Lamborghini Huracán STO features an entirely new exterior design which draws strong inspiration from racing cars employing the aerodynamic efficiency and lightweight technologies demanded in motorsports. The street-homologated Huracán STO is the result of Squadra Corse and Centro Stile departments. The super sports car features a ‘Cofango’ (hood) and ‘Paraconfango’ (fender) on the front inspired by the Lamborghini Miura and the Sesto Elemento. The Confango is made from carbon fibre and the outer skin of the car is made from aluminium and largely from composite material. The Lamborghini Huracán STO also features a Hybrid chassis made from aluminium and carbon fibre.

The Lamborghini Huracán STO also features new air ducts on the bonnet to improve air circulation to the central radiator, generate downforce and direct air to the rear diffuser. The car also features a Super Trofeo EVO derived new rear fender with a NACA air intake integrated into the fender which serves as an engine air intake resulting in a 30% decrease in static pressure losses. A rear bonnet integrated Shark Fin also improves the dynamic abilities of the Huracán STO when cornering. The Lamborghini Huracán STO also gets adjustable rear wing, new front brake cooling ducts on the Formula 1 derived CCM-R brakes and “MagneRide2.0” electromagnetic damper control providing the control of a race car along with the comfort of a road car.

Lamborghini will start deliveries of the Huracán STO in Spring of 2021 and the super sports car will come with a suggested retail price tag of EUR 249,412 / USD 327,838.
