Written by Kanad Kalasur

KTM is working on a scooter. This scooter has now been spotted testing and it seems to be electric. A prototype of the new KTM electric scooter has been seen in Europe.

KTM’s electric scooter : More Details

From the spy images, it appears that the scooter is in an early developmental stage. We can notice that despite the camouflage, there are some details revealed. The styling appears to be neutral with some KTM design language details. Further, some of the components of the scooter appear to be 3D printed.

The battery pack appears to be placed under the floorboard. There is an aluminium swing arm as well. This appears like the typical KTM design. The battery position will also help reduce the centre of gravity of the scooter giving it better handling characteristics. Other details on the electric KTM scooter include a single-piece seat, disc brakes on both wheels, a large wind deflector and more. KTM has also equipped this scooter with alloy wheels, a large digital instrument cluster and LED lights.

Powertrain of the KTM electric scooter

Coming to the powertrain of the scooter, it is said that the electric KTM scooter will get an 8 kW motor. This has been co-developed with Bajaj. It is not yet clear, but the KTM’s platform could also be the one underpinning the electric Bajaj Chetak.

Since a while now, the Austrian-Indo bike makers have been collaborating on a lot of different projects. One of these is likely to be a common EV platform to transition to the future. Both companies could also benefit from scale by joint development.

Timeline of the electric KTM scooter

KTM could showcase a production ready model of this electric scooter at this year’s EICMA. That would give it an early 2025 launch timeline. This KTM could be manufactured at Bajaj’s facility outside Pune and sold across the world.
