Porsche reveals Mission X electric hypercar concept

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Porsche has unveiled a new two seater concept. The Mission X is touted as a successor to the Carrera GT and the 918 Spyder. The Concept has an electric powertrain with rear wheel drive layout, but it can potentially offer power in excess of 1500 HP. According to Porsche, this could also be the fastest road legal car to lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Porsche Mission X : More Details

In terms of size, the Mission X measures 4,500 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,730 mm. The height is less than 1,200 mm, and the car rides on 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch at the back. Overall, the size bears resemblance to the Carrera GT and the 918 Spyder.
Visually, we can see that the Mission X borrows styling cues from the German carmaker’s Le Mans 24 hours winning cars. There is a light weight glass done along with a carbon fibre exo-skeleton. This extends over the seats. It also gets doors from the Le Mans cars hinged on the A-pillars. They open towards the front and upwards.

The headlights consist of vertical oriented lights inspired from the 906 and the 908. They get framed LED lights. Towards the back, there is a whole width LED light and the Porsche lettering, too, gets the same treatment.

Porsche Mission X Interior Details

Purely driver oriented, the Mission X comes with different coloured seats. They come with a 6-point harness and the driver gets a motorsport steering with paddle shifters. The car also gets multiple cameras which can be turned on with the push of a button. These cameras are designed to capture the Nurburgring records. On the passenger side, there is a provision for stop watch as well.

Porsche Mission X : Powertrain

While there are no details yet on the powertrain of the Mission X, the German carmaker has given us a brief overview of the plans the car could achieve. The current Nurburgring record is held by Mercedes-AMG One. It clocked 6:25.18 minutes for the 20.83 km circuit. Hence, Porsche is focusing on a light weight design for the Mission X. The target Power to weight ratio is 1 HP per kg.

Hence, with a 1,500 kg car, we can expect the output to be 1,500 HP. There is no word yet on the battery as well. But the battery will be installed behind the seats. This would be the location of the engine of a typical mid-engined racer.

Porsche will give the Mission X a 900V system. This will ensure faster charging than even the Taycan electric vehicle. Porsche claims Mission X will charge twice as faster than the Taycan.
