Ola discontinues battery options on electric scooters

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Ola has removed the battery options from the S1 Air electric scooter. The scooter was first unveiled back in October 2022. Initially, the scooter’s battery was set at 2.5 kWh and an introductory price of INR 79,999. However, the electric scooter maker offered three battery options with the same in February 2023.

High Demand cuts battery options in Ola S1 Air

Ola has made an announcement regarding the battery options of the S1 Air scooter. Earlier this year, the scooter was expected to come with three battery capacities. These include 2 kWh, 3 kWh and 4 kWh. Now, the company has removed the 2kWh and 4 kWh options which means that only the 3 kWh option will be available to the customers.

The planned delivery date was the first quarter of 2023. However, there is still no word on the delivery status of the scooter.

According to a media report, the high demand for the 3kWh variant has all but ensured the discontinuation of the other options. Likewise, it was also revealed that the S1 scooter too loses out the 2kWh option and is not sold only with the 3kWh battery.

Current Pricing and availability of the Ola S1 Air

In terms of pricing, the Ola S1 Air now sells at INR 1.10 lakh for the lone 3kWh option. This price includes the new FAME II subsidy amount. Customers who have already booked the scooter will now get only this 3kWh variant. In case anyone wants to cancel their bookings, Ola will fully refund the booking amount.

The Ola S1 3kWh gets a range of 125 km on a full charge (Indian Driving Cycle). The top speed of this scooter is 85 km/h while the motor is rated at a peak power of 4.5 kW.

While the Q2 2023 is almost coming to an end, there is no word yet on the delivery timeline of the Ola S1 Air.
