Kia reveals EV6 crossover based on E-GMP platform

Following the teaser campaign of its first electric car on the dedicated E-GMP architecture, Kia Motor Corporation has now unveiled the EV6 battery electric vehicle’s exteriors and interiors along with the design philosophy of the vehicle. The brand has also announced that it will introduce the Kia EV6 later this month in a digital world premiere.

Design Philosophy

Kia reveals that the EV6 is built on the company’s new ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy. The new philosophy takes inspiration from the contrasts found in nature and in humanity. The design consists of the positive forces in nature and the contrasting elements as well as sculptural shapes. The new design philosophy is based on five pillars – ‘Bold for Nature’, ‘Joy for Reason’, ‘Power to Progress’, ‘Technology for Life’, and ‘Tension for Serenity’.

Exterior Design & Styling

The Kia EV6 features a new futuristic design on the exteriors that represents the brand’s ‘Power to Progress’ theory. According to the brand, the exterior showcase the brand’s evolution in design and depict the transformation to the future and beyond. In the electric era, the Tiger Nose Grille is replaced by a sleek design on the grille section forming the EVs ‘Digital Tiger Face’, the grille is flanked by sharp headlamps with ‘sequential’ dynamic light pattern, a low and wide air intake visually widen the car and also works to optimise the thermodynamics and aerodynamics by channelling air around the vehicle. On the sides, the car features crossover inspired styling, featuring a sweptback windshield, a sloping rear C-pillar with an integrated black glossy insert, a prominent roof spoiler, a bol haunch and a raised lower spoiler which sits atop the car’s unique rear light cluster.

Interior

The dedicated E-GMP platform is focused on providing more interior space and passenger comfort. Compared to the previous Kia EVs that were based on the existing electric platform, the EV6 offers more space and options thanks to the flat floor package of the E-GMP. On the inside, the EV6 comes with a multilayered dashboard that curves around forming a wraparound effect, the dashboard fascia slopes away from the front passengers giving an open effect, on top of the dash sits a high-tech curved high-definition AVN infotainment + navigation system with one half dedicated to drivers instruments giving them an immersive experience, haptic buttons for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning under the AVN system and a minimum number of physical buttons to offer uncluttered experience. The seats are also slim and modern made with fabrics created using recycled plastics which create an openness inside the cabin.

The Kia EV6 is the result of the collaboration between Kia’s global design network in Namyang (Korea), Frankfurt (Germany), and Irvine (California, US).
