Kia plans to launch 14 BEV models by 2027

Kia has announced the brand’s sustainable mobility roadmap to 2030. The South Korean car manufacturer revealed its plans at the company’s 2022 CEO Investor Day virtual event. The latest roadmap is built on Kia’s successful ‘Plan S’ strategy, which was first announced in 2020. In addition to this, the brand also revealed that the company will achieve its vision to become a Sustainable Mobility Solutions Provider. Furthermore, Kia plans to establish a line-up of 14 BEV models by the year 2027.

Kia Vision for the Future

Kia reveals that the brand’s corporate vision is supported by three key pillars – ‘people’, ‘planet’ and ‘profit’. Kia will also enhance its customer value and also nurture talents thanks to the new solutions. The future vision will also reduce carbon emissions in consideration for the environment, and generate profits while working as a responsible corporate citizen.

Kia’s Business Targets

For 2030, the brand has revealed four key business targets. These targets include accelerating electrification and achieving annual sales of 1.2 million battery electric vehicles (BEV) by the year 2030. This also includes reaching 4 million annual vehicle sales by 2030. Also, included in the plans are over 2 million eco-friendly models. The brand is also planning the application of connected car features and autonomous driving technologies to all new vehicles.

Kia’s Annual Sales

Kia announced that the annual sales stood at 3.15 million units in 2022. The brand plans to achieve 4 million units in 2030, which is a 27 per cent increase from Kia’s target for 2022. The brand is also focussing on future business, expecting an increase from 17 per cent of global sales in 2022 to 52 per cent in 2030. Kia also plans to increase its proportion of eco-friendly car sales by up to 78 per cent by 2030 in countries such as Korea, North America, Europe and China.

Kia Expanding to 14 BEV Models

From 2023, Kia plans to launch at least two BEVs per year. By 2027, the brand plans to increase a lineup to 14 models. The brand earlier announced the plans to launch 11 models by 2026. Kia will also add two electric pickup trucks, with a dedicated electric pickup truck and a strategic model for emerging markets and an entry-level BEV model.

In addition to this, Kia also plans to reaffirm its leadership in the EV market through its flagship electric vehicle, the EV9. The brand plans to set the launch for the EV9 in 2023. The EV9 is a large SUV with a total length of around 5 meters. The large SUV also boasts an excellent acceleration of 0-100km/h in five seconds and a range of approximately 540km on a full charge. It can also provide a 100 km driving range on just a six-minute of charge.
