Kia India teases new Project X, could be Seltos X-Line variant

Kia India has launched a new teaser for its upcoming SUV in the Indian market. While the brand has not officially announced the name of the SUV, we speculate that Kia plans to launch the Seltos X-Line variant in India. The new teaser campaign under the name Project X also reveals the light signatures of the upcoming SUV, which is similar to the Kia Seltos, leading to the speculation.

According to Kia’s teaser video, “the new species of badass” will be a rugged vehicle as to the teaser showcases that the Project X in a cave. The region around the Project X cave is also quite challenging, which leads us to believe that the Project X car could get a lift kit and all-wheel-drivetrain. This will also help Kia compete with the top-spec Mahindra XUV700, which features AWD as an option.

Kia Seltos X-Line – Exterior Features

At the Auto Expo 2020, Delhi, Kia showcased the Seltos X-line variant to the Indian audience. The X-Line came with changes to the front and rear bumper. The front also features an aggressive X-shape on the fascia. The X-Line also came with diamond knurled elements, orange inserts, and piano black accents. The Seltos X-Line also features gloss black wheel arch trim, satin-finish roof rails, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The X-Line will also feature a higher ground clearance, skid plates on the front and rear, and a tapering glasshouse.

Kia Seltos X-Line – Interior Features

The Kia Seltos X-Line concept came with darkened windows at the biennial event, preventing a glimpse of the interiors. But we speculate that the Kia Seltos X-Line will come with a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system and a full digital display. The infotainment will also come with UVO Connect artificial intelligence (AI) features. The car also gets a Smart Pure Air purifier, wireless charging, automatic climate control, tyre pressure monitoring system, etc. The X-Line will also come with several active and passive safety features. Kia is also likely to employ a camera-based ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) on the Seltos X-Line.

Kia Seltos X-Line – Engine Speculations

Powering the Kia Seltos X-Line could be a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine. The engine produces 140 PS of power and 242 Nm of torque on the Seltos 1.4 SmartStream. The X-Line could be tuned to produce more power to help it compete with the XUV700’s 2.0-litre turbo-petrol that makes 200 PS of power and 380 Nm of torque. The X-Line is likely to come with both 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT gearbox options.
