Kia and Hyundai will soon be bringing new EV offerings to the country. Hyundai will launch the Ioniq 5 and Kia, the EV6. Though, the carmakers have not yet confirmed the launch details of the EVs. In this comparison, we compare both the EV siblings by their international specifications. Thus, giving an idea of what to expect when they make their way to India.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is available in three variants – SE, SEL, and Limited in the US. Pricing starts at USD 44,000 for the SE, and SEL costs USD 46,250. The range-topping Limited model comes with a sticker price of USD 51,100. It is important to note that the prices are for the RWD powertrains, and the optional AWD powertrain will cost extra.
The Kia EV6, on the other hand, is available in a lot more variants. The standard trim lineup is – Light (RWD), Wind (RWD), and Wind (e-AWD). The other model is the EV6 GT trim. The GT trim variants include – GT-Line (RWD) and GT-Line (e-AWD). The EV6 undercuts the Ioniq 5’s price and starts at USD 40,900 for the Light (RWD). The other variants’ pricing is USD 47,000 for the Wind (RWD) and USD 50,900 for the Wind (e-AWD). The pricing of the GT-Line starts at USD 51,200 for the GT-Line (RWD), and the model range tops out at USD 55,900 for the GT-Line (e-AWD).
The Kia EV6’s RWD variants use a single-motor setup, and the e-AWD variants use a dual-motor setup. As the cars share the same platform, they share the 72.6 kWh battery pack. However, the Light (RWD) variant gets a smaller 58 kWh battery pack. The base Light (RWD) variant produces a peak power of 167 HP and 350 Nm of torque. The battery output is rated at 195 kW. The Wind (RWD) and GT-Line (RWD) models make 225 HP and 350 Nm. The battery output for the variants is 253 kW. The Wind (e-AWD) and GT-Line (e-AWD) variants’ dual-motor setups make 320 HP and 605 Nm. Battery output for the e-AWD models is also 253 kW.
In the case of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, all the variants share the same single-motor and the optional dual-motor powertrain. The single-motor RWD models with 72.6 kWh battery pack produce 225 HP and 350 Nm of torque. With the 58 kWh battery pack, it produces 167 HP and 350 Nm. The optional AWD powertrain adds additional power and torque. The dual-motor AWD Ioniq 5 produces 320 HP and 605 Nm of torque. Standard across the range is a 272 kW battery output.
All the variants of the Kia EV6 get the exact dimensions. The electric vehicle measures 4681 mm in length, 1879 mm in width, and 1544 mm in height. The wheelbase of the EV6 is 2900 mm, and the ground clearance is 155 mm. Like the Kia, all Hyundai Ioniq 5 have the exact dimensions. The Ioniq 5 measures 4635 mm in length, 1889 mm in width and 1600 mm in height. The Ioniq 5 has a wheelbase of almost 3000 mm and a ground clearance of 155 mm.
The Kia EV6 variant with the highest range is the RWD model with the 72.6 kWh battery pack, which goes up to 510 km on a single charge (WLTP). The 58 kWh battery pack with RWD can go up to 373 km on a single charge. On the other hand, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 with the smaller battery pack goes up to 354 km per charge and with the larger battery pack, up to 488 km.
