Kerala Police has expanded its vehicle force by adding 44 units of Force Gurkha SUVs to the fleet. This move is an attempt to increase the presence of police forces in the mountain region that require proper 4×4 SUVs. As per reports, this is the first time that Kerala Police will include Force Gurkha as their patrolling vehicle. There are multiple spots in Kerala where Naxalite activities take place quite frequently. And now, with Gurkhas as their patrolling vehicle, the police force can reach the adverse and remote regions.
What Is The Force Gurkha?
In 2021, Force Motors updated the Gurkha with some significant additions, without any compromise to the iconic design. And hence, the Gurkha retains its G-Wagon inspired exterior outlook. Gurkha has always been a pretty solid off-roader, but now with this update, Force has enhanced its tarmac running capabilities as well. One can acknowledge the updates pretty much from the exterior. The significant changes include updated bumpers, front grille and a pretty new tail section.
2021 Gurkha has also grown bigger with a wider body, thus allowing more room on the inside. The rear passengers get the captain seat setup, thus ensuring more comfort and legroom. There are a total of five colours to choose from. These are Orange, White, Red, Green and Gray. Priced at INR 14.10 lakhs (ex-showroom), Gurkha is a bargain that offers a very capable off-roading capability.
Powertrain and Off-Road Capabilities
Powering the Gurkha is an FM 2.6-litre CRCD Mercedes-Benz derived BS6 compliant diesel engine. The performance figure of the motor is set at 91 Hp of power and 250 Nm of torque. Customers will only get a single gearbox option, which is a G28 5-speed manual synchromesh gearbox. The area where Gurkha completely shines is the off-roading department. Force has equipped a 4×4 drivetrain, along with positive locking, manually operated mechanical differential locks on all four wheels and more. The company fitted snorkel helps Gurkha to travel through water up to 700mm depth.
