Kawasaki launches W175 retro motorcycle for INR 1.47 lakh

After a few leaks and spy shots, Kawasaki India launched the W175 in the Indian market. The latest motorcycle from Kawasaki India now takes over from the Ninja 300 as the most affordable product from the Japanese brand in India. The new W175 is also the first motorcycle Kawasaki India will manufacture locally. Before this, all of its products came to India as CKD or SKD kits and were assembled here or as CBUs.

2022 Kawasaki W175 – Variants, Colour Options & Pricing

The latest retro motorcycle from Kawasaki India will come in two variants – Standard and Special Edition. The Standard comes in Kawasaki’s Ebony colour option, which is gloss black. On the other hand, the Special Edition comes in Candy Persimmon Red.

Pricing for the W175 starts at INR 1,47,000 ex-showroom for the Standard variant. Meanwhile, the Special Edition variant comes with a sticker price of INR 1,49,000 ex-showroom. Kawasaki India also mentioned that the W175 is now available across all authorised dealerships. Bookings for the retro motorcycle are open from today onwards. However, deliveries are likely to start in December 2022.

2022 Kawasaki W175 – Highlights

Looking at the W175, it is instantly noticeable that the retro motorcycle borrows design cues from its bigger sibling, the W800. However, that’s not a bad thing. The W175 gets a round headlight, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, and a boxy side panel similar to the W800.

The bike has a minimalistic design. The seat is also almost a flat single-piece one. Combined with the upright handlebar, it will make for comfortable ergonomics. On the other end, the W175 gets a curved fender with taillight and indicators.

The W175 looks simple, and it is. There is not much on offer. The motorcycle gets a simple analogue speedometer and a couple of tell-tale lights. These include – neutral, high-beam, turn indicators and some warning lights.

2022 Kawasaki W175 – Technical Specifications

Powering the W175 is a 177cc air-cooled 4-stroke single-cylinder engine matched to a 5-speed gearbox. The engine makes 13 PS of power at 7,500 rpm and 13.2 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. To help it meet BS6 emission norms, it also features fuel injection. The output figures may seem modest. However, what should work in its favour is the low 135 kg kerb weight.

As for chassis and suspension, it uses a tubular semi double-cradle frame. At the front, the W175 uses 30 mm telescopic forks with 110 mm of travel. Meanwhile, at the rear, it uses twin hydraulic dual rating shock absorbers. The rear has 64 mm of travel and also gets 5-step preload adjustability.

The braking setup consists of a 270 mm disc brake with a dual-piston calliper at the front and a drum brake at the rear. Single-Channel ABS comes as standard.
