Kawasaki bringing the Eliminator cruiser back?

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Kawasaki could bring the Eliminator nameplate back. However, this time around, the cruiser bike will feature a 400cc engine. Years ago, Bajaj used to sell the Eliminator 175 thanks to the company’s joint venture with the Japanese brand. Infact, the bikes were even exported to other overseas markets.

Kawasaki Eliminator 400 : More Details

After the Bajaj Eliminator, the bike maker used it as the base for the current Avenger brand. Now, the modern gen cruise from Kawasaki could make use of this name and bring back memories.

Kawasaki is planning to launch a bunch of products and one of these is a low slung cruiser motorcycle. Hence, it is being speculated that the Japanese bike maker would consider using the Eliminator name.

The 2023 Osaka Motor Show is scheduled for March 15. While primarily for custom works, it is not very uncommon for companies to showcase their upcoming products. Kawasaki has teased three bikes. Amongst these, the first one is the ZX-4RR. The other two are an ADV and this cruiser motorcycle. The company’s latest teaser shows three covered bikes at the Osaka Motor Show pavilion.

We can notice that the bike has circular ORVMs and tail lamps. There is also a good height difference between the handlebar and the rear portion. This matches with the low-slung cruiser bike design.

Popularity of the Eliminator brand

In the 90s, the Eliminator was one of the popular series in the Kawasaki stable. The first Eliminator was sold in 1985. This was the Eliminator 900. It soon gave way to other engine options right from 125 cc all the way upto 1000 cc. In India we had the EL175 model as the Bajaj Eliminator. Other models included EL125, EL250, VN250, ZL400, ZL600, ZL750, ZL900 and ZL1000.

This cruiser bike if launched could also be a good fit in the company’s Indian portfolio. The bike could challenge the Royal Enfield range of bikes and offer an alternative choice to users who prefer cruiser motorcycles.
