With the ageing Santro on its way to being discontinued, Hyundai has decided that it will offer the older generation i10 to the taxi segment. The i10 will now be seen painted in black and yellow in cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru from 2015 onwards.
The cab market in Mumbai is expected to have almost 7,843 taxi permits available. Seems like Hyundai is targeting to grab this opportunity to drive out more i10 hatchbacks and increase their sales figures.
The i10 for the taxi segment will be available with a CNG option which will be retrofitted, not factory-fitted.
A new variant without power steering and non A/C will be available for the taxi market.
