One of the best-selling, global Korean SUVs, the Hyundai Tucson, has been awarded a 0 Star rating by Latin NCAP. Post the crash test, Latin NCAP stated that the SUV scored 20.48 points for adult occupant protection. The results also showcased that Tucson managed to score a dismal 2.14 points for child occupant safety.
Latin NCAP crash test
The esteemed organization, Latin NCAP, stated that during the test, Tucson provided good protection to the driver and passenger. More specifically, the SUV offered satisfactory protection to the head and neck regions during the frontal impact test. Meanwhile, the test showcased that the Tucson provided adequate chest protection to the driver and the passenger.
Interestingly, the SUV managed to offer minimal protection to the driver’s knees, but good protection to the passenger’s knees. Additionally, the Tucson provided adequate chest protection for its occupants during the side impact test. On the other hand, the SUV offered good head protection towards the 3-year old child placed within the child seat.
The Tucson crash test car featured dual front airbags, seat belt pretensioners, load limiters, and a seat belt reminder (SBR). The Tucson scored a 5-star rating at the Euro NCAP in November 2021, thanks to additional standard safety features. Compared to its European counterpart, the Latin American Tucson SUV misses out on those key, standard safety features.
2021 Hyundai Tucson
Hyundai has launched the next-gen, updated Tucson for the global markets but offers the previous-gen facelifted version in India. The base 2020 Tucson costs INR 22.69 lakh (ex-showroom), whereas the top-spec variant costs INR 27.47 lakh (ex-showroom). The South Korean automaker offers the Tucson with 2 engine options, 2.0-litre petrol or a 2.0-litre diesel engine.
The former produces 152 PS of power and 192 Nm of torque and utilizes a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the latter produces 185 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque whilst featuring an 8-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, Hyundai offers the diesel variant of the Tucson with its HTRAC AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) system for off-roading and tackling rugged terrains.
