Hyundai reveals Stargazer MPV, Ertiga rival

Written by Rohit Tonapi

After multiple teasers, Hyundai has globally revealed the Stargazer MPV for the Indonesian market. The new MPV also marks the South Korean carmaker’s entry into the entry-level MPV segment. This is the same segment that has MPVs like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, XL6 and the Mahindra Marazzo.

Though there is no confirmation of any sort from the brand, there is a possibility Hyundai might bring the Stargazer to the Indian market in the future. In the Indonesian market, the pricing for the Stargazer starts at IDR 243,300,00 and tops out at IDR 307,100,000. This roughly translates to INR 12.98 lakh and INR 16.37 lakh.

Hyundai Stargazer MPV – Exterior Highlights

Hyundai had already teased us with the front and rear design of the Stargazer. And now, we get to see the complete design of the MPV. The silhouette of the Stargazer looks like a typical MPV. The front of the MPV gets a blunt nose. The Stargazer’s side profile gets clean lines, making it look even bigger. The front fascia of the Stargazer gets a LED strip that runs across the bonnet lip. The same LED strip also doubles up as the DRL. The main LED headlights are housed in vertical housings on the sides. Between the main headlights and below the LED DRL sits the main grille.

According to Hyundai, the Stargazer’s boxy but sleek and curvy design makes for a perfectly height-optimised cabin. The roof’s curvature also gives more sense of space to the interiors. On the sides, you see the diamond-cut alloy wheels and the large glass area. One can also see the huge windscreen from the side-quarter. The rear of the Stargazer also gets the latest ‘H’ LED taillights. These taillights are connected using a full-length light bar. We are seeing more and more Hyundais with such taillights.

Hyundai Stargazer MPV – Interior Highlights

Thanks to the large exteriors, the Stargazer will offer a lot of interior room for its occupants. The second row’s captain seats will also get individual armrests. Furthermore, the second row of seats offers a full range of adjustability. Furthermore, the third row of the MPV also looks accommodating, but we can’t be sure from looking at the pictures.

At the front, the dashboard layout is typical of the latest Hyundais. The Stargazer gets an 8-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment display. However, it also gets physical buttons and knobs for quick access. Other interior highlights of the MPV include a wireless smartphone charger, 4.2-inch TFT colour instrument cluster and seat back table for the second-row seats.

In Indonesia, Hyundai is also equipping the Stargazer with Hyundai SmartSense. The SmartSense is what Hyundai calls its range of ADAS technology. The SmartSense in the Stargazer features the following –

  • Forward Collision-avoidance Assist (FCA)
  • Lane Keep Assist (LKA)
  • Blind-spot Collision Warning (BCW) + Blind-spot Collision-avoidance Assist (parallel parking)
  • Rear Cross-traffic Collision-avoidance Assist (RCCA)

Hyundai Stargazer MPV – Powertrain

Powering the Stargazer MPV will be a 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine. The motor makes 113 HP at 6,300 rpm and 144 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. As for the transmission, there will only be an option of an iVT automatic. If Hyundai decides to bring it to India, it will likely get more engine options from the models on sale in India.
