Hyundai Kona N makes debut with 286 HP on tap

Hyundai infamous N performance portfolio has now expanded. For the first time, Hyundai has introduced a crossover SUV in the N guise. The recent trend shift towards crossover SUV Hyundai brings the Kona N into the international market. The brand also revealed that it would further expand the N and N Line portfolio with 18 models through 2022.

Hyundai Kona N Engine Specifications

The N brand always has its focus on motorsports and racetrack capabilities. Hyundai incorporates ‘corner rascal’ ride and handling along with a powerful engine in all its N brand vehicles, and Kona N is no exception. Powering the Hyundai Kona N is a 2.0-litre T-GDi petrol engine. The four-cylinder motor with a turbocharger produces 280 PS of power and 392 Nm of torque. The motor comes with an 8-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (N DCT).

The engine is also equipped with Hyundai’s N Grin Shift function that can bump the power to 290 PS (286HP) for 20 seconds. The motor also features N Power Shift (NPS) and N Track Sense Shift (NTS). The N model can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds with Launch Control and achieve a top speed of 240 Kmph. The Hyundai Kona N also features N Corner Carving Differential, an electronic limited-slip differential (E-LSD) for maximum control in corners. The Kona N also comes with five driving modes – Eco, Normal, Sport, N and Custom, and Launch Control and Variable Exhaust System.

The Hyundai Kona N comes with an aerodynamically efficient front lip spoiler, double-wing roof spoiler and side skirts. The SUV also features a muscular body and N-specific 19-inch alloy wheels. The SUV design takes inspiration from an aeronautic fuselage and features wide lower air intakes that keep the powertrain cool on hot laps. The Kona N also features an N-specific triangular brake light inspired by motorsports. The Kona N is available in a newly developed N-exclusive Sonic Blue exterior colour. 

Hyundai Kona N Interiors

The SUV features Performance Blue colour accents on the seats, steering wheel, shift knob, and metal pedals. The crossover features new 10-inch infotainment and digital cluster system. The new system also comes with an exclusive racing head-up display (HUD). The HUD comes with a game-like feature in the N and Sport modes. The infotainment system also comes with an ‘N mode design’ that features lap time and N track maps. 

Safety

The Hyundai Kona N also comes with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that include Smart Cruise Control (SCC), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), High Beam Assist (HBA), Safe Exit Warning (SEW) and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Alert (RCCA).
