Written by Kanad Kalasur

Hyundai has announced a public charging initiative. The Korean carmaker has announced that they will install fast chargers across key highways and cities in India. The charger will be part of Hyundai’s Ultra-High Speed Public EV Charging Network and will consist of one each of DC 150 kW charger and DC 60 kW charger. According to the company, this will not just help promote EV sales, but also improve the travelling experience of electric car owners.

Fast charging when travelling

Unlike home chargers, the fast chargers as the name imply enable prompt top-up of an electric vehicle’s battery. Citing an example of the Hyundai IONIQ 5, the fast charger will top up the SUV from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 21 minutes. This means passengers can take a quick break while their ride charges.

Hyundai Motor India has tied up with ChargeZone, a leading charging point operator in India. The chargers will be managed and operated by Hyundai.

Further, these charging facilities will be located with sufficient passenger amenities like coffee shops and restaurants in the vicinity to help increase the customer delight. The operating hours are set to be 24×7 and the chargers will have marshals to guide the EV owners all the time.

The first two EV charging stations are set to open from 1st February 2023. This will be open to all EV owners, not just those with Hyundai EVs. The are located on the Hyderabad- Vijayawada (Narketpalle) and Delhi- Chandigarh (Kurukshetra) highways.

Other key cities highways include Hyderabad- Vijayawada, Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Jaipur, Mumbai-Pune and Bengaluru- Chennai. Hyundai also plans to install these chargers in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad.
