South Korean automotive giant Hyundai has likely pulled the plug on its Elantra executive sedan for the Indian market. This decision may fall in line with the fact that vehicles within the C-segment category no longer attract Indian audiences. Hyundai may have taken down the Elantra due to the rampant growth and popularity of SUVs on a global scale. Previously, executive sedans like the Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, and the Skoda Octavia all represented the C-segment market.
Reasons behind the supposed discontinuation
The rumours behind the discontinuation began when enthusiasts discovered that Hyundai’s official website no longer displayed any details of the Elantra. The automaker’s website only shows its recent portfolio, with sources commenting that dealers are not accepting bookings for the Elantra. If Hyundai has indeed discontinued the Elantra for good, then the Skoda Octavia remains the only executive sedan in India.
Another reason behind Elantra’s supposed discontinuation may involve the shortage of parts in terms of accessories and repair. Hyundai is very likely to take the step of launching the next-gen Elantra after the silent removal of its current-gen details. The automaker has already introduced the next-gen Elantra in International markets such as Europe and the USA. In India, Hyundai witnessed average sales of the current-gen Elantra in comparison to its other models in its portfolio.
