Honda resumes hunt for Next-Generation Iconic Indian rider

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. has resumed the hunt to find India’s iconic next-gen rider. By conducting round 2 of IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Hunt 2021, the company aims to showcase young racing talent. The event hosted at the Aruani Grid in Bengaluru will feature the shortlisted next-gen riders. The 2nd round of the IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Hunt 2021 showcases 14 amateur riders from 8 cities. These cities include Bengaluru-Karnataka, Tirupur and Karur-Tamil Nadu, Kolhapur-Maharashtra, Kannur, Kottayam, Thrissur, and Perinthalmanna-Kerala.

2021 IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Hunt: Qualifications

The round features riders ranging from ages 11-17, out of which an 11-year old girl qualified through the ranks. The event featured participants who aspire to become an iconic riders along with experienced young riders looking for a platform. During level 1, all 14 participants had to undertake 3 levels of rigorous tests. The 1st test contained a physical fitness session followed up by the 2nd test, which monitored riding skills and manoeuvrability.

The final test was a one-on-one personal interview with the candidate and their parents/guardians to understand their motivations. The interview also helped showcase the participant’s motorsport passion and the family’s support to become India’s iconic rider. For level 2, the shortlisted seven candidates, which included a girl, underwent training and received the opportunity to ride on track. For future development purposes, Honda aims to choose one out of the seven candidates.

The event aims to train and set up young riders to partake in multiple national and international racing platforms. These include the Asia Talent Cup, the Asia Road Racing Championship, and Endurance championships. The selected final riders will currently compete and race in the IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Cup CBR 150R category.

The Monster Energy Honda Team recently achieved both the stage and race victories at the 2021 Rallye du Maroc. Chilean rider Pablo Quintanilla rose to victory with his Honda CRF450 RALLY bike securing a great deal of points for the team. This victory at the Morocco Rally also marked Quintanilla’s first win and three-stage victories since the 2019 Atacama Rally. Monster Energy Honda won their last victory at the Morocco Rally in 2013 thanks to rider Paulo Goncalves.
