Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India Limited have issued a recall for their flagship supersport motorcycle, the CBR1000RR-R, in India. The manufacturer is recalling seven units of the MY20 motorcycle sold in India. The ongoing recall campaign pertains to inappropriate heat insulation measures for the resin hose of the oil-cooler outlet pipe.
Honda CBR1000RR-R – The Problem
As per the manufacturer, usage of 1st gear for short distances from the said vehicle can cause the surface of the hose pipe to melt due to the radiant heat emitted from the exhaust pipe. Prolonged use of the motorcycle with the defect can lead to a crack in the hose pipe and engine oil leak. In a worst-case scenario, the leaked oil can also come in contact with the rear wheel of the motorcycle. This can cause loss of traction, disbalance the rider and cause total loss of control over the motorcycle. However, it is important to note that, no crash, damage, injury or death has been reported pertaining to the recall.
Honda CBR1000RR-R – The Solution
The manufacturer will be carrying out the necessary repairs by adding a heat shield and replacing the oil cooler outlet pipe with a new one. Honda has also stated that it can take time for the improved replacement parts to arrive. Meanwhile, Honda will inform the users about the problem and the preventive measures to be taken. The manufacturer recommends customers replace the parts as soon as they become available.
Honda CBR1000RR-R – Prices Reduced in India
The Honda CBR1000RR-R recently received a massive price reduction. The supersport motorcycle came with a price tag of around INR 33 lakh ex-showroom last year. Honda has now managed to reduce the bike price by around INR 10 lakh ex-showroom. The flagship litre-class motorcycle is available in two models – STD Black and STD Red.
