Hero MotoCorp & Bharat Petroleum Corporation plan to Electrify The Country

Written by Akhil Dalvi

One of India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturers, Hero MotoCorp, has announced its partnership with Global 500 Company, Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL). The two companies will work together to set up a charging infrastructure across the country for electric two-wheelers. Hero MotoCorp states that it has actively tried to propel the Indian automotive industry and lead it towards the future. Throughout its organic and inorganic means of expansion, Hero MotoCorp has accelerated the growth of emerging mobility trends in India.

Charging Infrastructure Plans

Following its “Be the Future of Mobility” vision, Hero MotoCorp aims to drive the growth of EVs across the country. It has also become one of the first OEMs to tie up with a leading Public Sector Undertaking (PSU). Meanwhile, Bharat Petroleum will accelerate its focus on obtaining new business segments for sustainable growth, as announced in September 2021. The company will work towards converting 7,000 of its conventional Retail Outlets into Energy Stations, providing multiple fueling options.

Along with EV charging facilities, the two companies will establish a substantial charging infrastructure around the existing energy station network. They may subsequently work together to broaden the collaboration by developing more synergies within the EV ecosystem and adjacent business verticals. This will allow the two companies to enable prospects throughout the customer life cycle and offer customer energy solutions. The partnership will also help unlock the opportunities for asset allocation expansion for the future and meeting the planet’s environmental targets.

Execution of phases

The first phase of the partnership will see both companies setting up charging stations across 9 Indian cities. Starting with Delhi and Bengaluru, the companies will then expand the network across the country to achieve a high density. As the infrastructure development commences in the two cities, each charging station will feature multiple charging points for electric two-wheelers.

This includes DC and AC chargers, along with users getting the chance to use Hero MotoCorp’s Mobile-App for cashless transactions. Bharat Petroleum’s highly-anticipated energy station network will also provide accelerated opportunities to expand the scope of operations and services. The companies may also utilize the created gateway to make additional investments into building a robust EV ecosystem in India.
