Ford recently announced that the brand is stopping the production of Ford Vehicles in the Indian market. The production of Ford vehicles for the export market will also cease by Q4 2021 in the Sanand vehicle assembly plant and Q2 2022 in Chennai engine and vehicle assembly plants. However, Ford plans to remain in India for the service and maintenance of current Ford vehicles, and the Sanand engine manufacturing plant will remain open to provide spare parts. The brand also announced that it would retain its business solutions team in India.
What Will Ford Retail in India? What Goes Out of Production?
Ford will only retail the Mustang Coupe and Mustang Mach-E electric SUV in the Indian market. Ford will bring both to the Indian soil via the CBU (Completely Built-up Route). However, sales on Figo, Aspire, Freestyle, EcoSport and Endeavour will cease once dealer stock is exhausted. The plan is to retail only high-end cars in the Indian market. The Mustang Mach-E SUV will cater to the demand for high-end luxury electric SUVs. The 100% electric vehicle will target the higher mindshare in the Indian market. Currently, the Jaguar I-Pace, Mercedes-Benz EQC and the Audi e-tron contest in the luxury EV space.
Mustang Mach-E – Specifications
Powering the Mustang Mach-E is a 290 Hp Rear Wheel Drive or a 340 Hp All-Wheel Drive electric powertrain. The power unit draws energy from either a 68kWh battery pack or an 88 kWh battery pack. This enables the Mustang Mach-E to deliver a range of more than 330 km on a single charge on the 68kWh pack and more than 350 on the larger 88kWh battery pack. The Mustang Mach-E is available in four trims – Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT. The Mach-E GT comes with a 480 HP/814 Nm electric motor. The GT Performance variant comes with 860 Nm of torque.

The Mustang Mach-E in the US comes with a starting price of USD 42,895 MSRP and goes up to USD 59,900 MSRP for the GT variant.
