The modern automotive industry has showcased its transitory phase of switching to alternative and less energy-intensive mobility options. To reduce environmental impact and improve sustainability, numerous countries are committing themselves to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. At the 26th Conference of Parties (CoP 26) meeting, more than 120 countries accounted for 52% of global emissions. Meanwhile, the Indian Government has introduced numerous policy initiatives in a bid to tackle increased oil import bills.
The Indian Government has also introduced the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicles (FAME-II) scheme. This will allow Indian customers to receive a 50% rebate on electric two-wheelers, which varies from one state to another. The FAME-II scheme offers an INR 15,000 rebate per kWh of battery capacity, covering 40% of vehicle costs. Keeping this in mind, here is a list of the upcoming electric two-wheelers which are set to arrive in 2022.
Ultraviolette F77
Funded by the TVS Motor Company and other investors, Bengaluru-based Ultraviolette is preparing itself to launch the F77 e-bike. The company has stated that it will launch the Made-in-India performance e-bike during the first half of 2022. According to Ultraviolette, the F77 can accelerate from 0-60 kph in 2.9 seconds, with a 140 kph top speed figure.
The bike will offer a claimed riding range of 150 Km per charge and will feature innovative, connected features. Some of the highlights include remote diagnostics, over-the-air (OTA) updates, regenerative braking, multiple ride modes, bike tracking, and ride diagnostics. Ultraviolette will offer the F77 in 3 variants – Airstrike, Shadow, and Laser, respectively.
Prevail Electric
Elite- Indian EV start-up Prevail Electric has prepared itself to launch three e-scooters in the market- Elite, Finesse, and Wolfury. Prevail has priced the Elite e-scooter at INR 1,29,999 (ex-showroom), which sports a top speed of 80 kph. With a load-carrying capacity of 200 Kg, the Elite e-scooter offers a riding range of 110 Km per charge.
Prevail offers a 55A controller with a one-click function that fully charges the Elite e-scooter within 4 hours. In terms of convenience features, the Elite sports an integrated Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) for navigation and entertainment purposes. Prevail states that riders can use the screen to listen to music and attend phone calls while riding.
Finesse- Prevail Electric has priced the Finesse e-scooter at INR 99,999 (ex-showroom), which offers a top speed of 60 kph. The company states that customers can charge the Finesse from 0-100% in 4 hours which also sports a swappable battery. Additionally, Prevail offers a control model of a 12-tube brushless controller with a one-click fix function for the Finesse e-scooter.
Wolfury- Finally, the Wolfury e-scooter from Prevail Electric costs INR 89,999 (ex-showroom) and sports a 50 kph top speed figure. The Wolfury e-scooter sports alloy wheel hubs are made from High-tensile Steel and Aluminium, which weigh 80 Kg without the battery. The battery on the Wolfury produces 1000W of power on a single charge which allows for 30-degrees of climbing capability. Prevail has equipped the Wolfury with Hydraulic Damping for enhanced comfort, LED headlights, and 5-speed change options.
Hop Electric Mobility
Another Indian EV startup joining the list is Hop Electric Mobility which entered the market by introducing two e-scooters. The first e-scooter range is the HOP Leo who has three variants- LEO Basic, LEO, and LEO Extended. The other is the HOP LYF, launched in 2021, consisting of LYF Basic, LYF, and LYF Extended variants. Both e-scooters offer 125 Km of riding range per charge and feature dual Lithium-ion batteries, which produce 2700W per charge.
Hop Mobility has also announced its plans of introducing a high-performance e-bike in India known as the HOP OXO. The designs released by the company showcase the e-bike’s attractive styling along with other claimed technical specifications. Hop Mobility claims that the HOP OXO can achieve a 0-80 kph acceleration time in less than 10 seconds. The company is currently testing the OXO e-bike to test the high-tech capabilities and features of the company’s logo.
Nexzu Mobility
India’s homegrown EV brand Nexzu Mobility has announced to increase its localization efforts to support the country’s ‘Atmanirbhar’ campaign. The Pune-based company has also revealed its plans of launching the new environmentally-friendly, e-cycle called the Bazinga in India. Built with an easy-to-use, hop-on/hop-off frame, the e-cycle showcases a traditional design based on the sketches released by Nexzu. The brand has also equipped the Bazinga e-cycle with a large external battery for providing a long riding range.
Emflux Motors
Founded in 2016, the Indian EV brand addressed its mission to empower 10 million electric two-wheelers in India by 2027. The brand has showcased its Emflux One electric sports bike, which it plans to introduce in India by 2022. Emflux Motors claims that the e-bike sports a top speed of 200 kph and achieves 0-100 kph in 3 seconds. The brand will likely equip the Emflux One with dual-channel ABS, single-sided swingarm, Ohlins suspension, and a fully-connected smart dashboard.
