Written by Akhil Dalvi

In the modern automotive world, EVs have become the new norm among the masses for environmental protection and sustainability. In this case, multiple tire OEMs have come with ways to ensure that their tyres provide the least rolling resistance. Renowned American tire brand Goodyear has unveiled its latest ElectricDrive GT replacement tyre for EVs in the North American market. Goodyear states that the ElectricDrive GT tyre fulfils specific EV requirements – load, torque, noise, range, rolling resistance, and overall performance.

Goodyear ElectricDrive GT: Details

The brand has described the ElectricDrive GT as an all-season, ultra-high performance tyre which has been designed for EVs. The tyre can handle EVs with high torque figures despite being heavier than conventional ICE-powered vehicles and offers long-lasting tread. Goodyear has designed the tyre with an asymmetric tread pattern which provides good handling in both wet/dry road conditions. The ElectricDrive GT also sports the brand’s SoundComfort Technology to reduce road noise which is typically noticed in modern EVs.

Goodyear ElectricDrive GT: Usage & Future

Goodyear states that it will offer the Electric GT tyre from 2022 onwards in 255/45R19 104W XL size. The brand says that its new tyre will be an ideal fit for the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. Goodyear also commented that it will expand its ElectricDrive range by adding more EV-specific tyres in different sizes. According to Goodyear’s research, EV owners needed a replacement tyre that offered enhanced treadwear and did not sacrifice performance.
