Delayed! Hero MotoCorp’s Vida electric scooter

Written by Rohit Tonapi

India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp, recently established the Vida sub-brand. The company aims to foray into the EV 2-wheeler space with a new e-scooter under this sub-brand. Hero announced the brand at a one-of-its-kind Carbon Neutral event in March 2022. The event took place at the exclusive Clarence Island in Dubai.

According to the company, the name of the sub-brand, Vida, means life in the Spanish language. The brand’s logo also comes with a ‘sunrise’ visual identity. The company’s sole purpose is to create a positive impact on the world. Hero MotoCorp aims to move everyone forward with the Vida brand in meaningful ways. Additionally, the company says the name matches perfectly with what they aim to build for our future generations.

Another Delay For The Vida Electric Scooter

Hero MotoCorp was initially scheduled to launch the electric scooter in March 2022. However, the company delayed it to July 2022. Now, according to the latest reports, the electric scooter will likely make its debut around this festive season. We are expecting a timeline around September 2022.

The company cites the ongoing semiconductor shortages as one of the reasons for the delay. The other reason is supply chain issues. These issues have now become more and more familiar in the automotive industry. The company says it is facing an enormous amount of supply chain issues. Additionally, Hero MotoCorp also says there is a shortage of various components. Unsurprisingly, this also includes a shortage of semiconductors.

Hero MotoCorp is not the only manufacturer that had to delay its launches. KTM, for example, was going to launch its latest supersport bike, the RC 390, in January. However, after multiple delays, the bike finally hit the Indian market in May 2022.

Even though Hero claims to have semiconductor shortage issues, it recently launched the Splendor+ XTEC. The new model comes with various updates. These include new electronic features such as a Bluetooth-enabled full digital instrument cluster.
