BYD, short for Build Your Dreams, might only have one product in India right now but is a big EV player in the international markets. In fact, the brand recently became the top-selling EV brand, surpassing even Tesla. Now, according to sources, BYD is planning to launch its second product for the Indian market, the Atto 3 electric SUV. The Atto 3 will be the second product in the passenger vehicle segment in India after the e6 MPV.

BYD Atto 3 Electric SUV – Launch Details

According to sources, BYD will launch the Atto 3 electric SUV in the Indian market on 11th October 2022. The electric SUV is already on sale in various right-hand drive markets such as Australia, Singapore and New Zealand. BYD will bring the Atto 3 as a Semi-Knocked Down (SKD) unit and assemble it at BYD’s plant in Sriperumbudur near Chennai. Deliveries for the BYD Atto 3 EV SUV will likely start in early 2023.

The BYD Atto 3 electric SUV is close to 4.5 metres in length. Additionally, BYD will equip it with a host of features. When it makes its way to the Indian market, the Atto 3 EV SUV will join the other electric SUVs in the INR 25 lakh to INR 35 lakh price range. Currently, these include the likes of the Hyundai Kona Electric and the MG ZS EV. BYD will likely price it between INR 30 lakh to INR 35 lakh.

According to company insiders, the Atto 3 uses BYD’s E platform. BYD designed this to take on the likes of Tesla. Thus, it could offer superior driving comfort compared to its rivals.

Other Updates

BYD recently launched the all-electric e6 MPV for private buyers in India for INR 29.15 lakh ex-showroom. The electric MPV was earlier available only for fleet owners. In addition to this, BYD has also started expanding its footprint in India. BYD partnered up with Landmark Cars and recently opened its first sales and service outlet at Okhla in New Delhi. Not long after, Landmark Cars also opened its second BYD outlet in Mumbai.
