BMW is marking 100 years of motorcycling with the launch of a special edition. This is for the R nineT roadster and R18 cruiser. The highlight of this edition is the extensive usage of chrome in a nod to the firm’s original 1923 R32 model. Well, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of anniversary models in the works. BMW mentioned that they are planning to have a great party throughout the whole year. And of course, they will add new bikes. In fact, we could also see some centenary versions as well.
R nineT 100 Year Edition
The first to arrive is the R nineT 100 Year Edition with a price tag of GBP 18,040. This motorcycle will arrive at the dealers in February 2023. As far as we know the motorcycle uses the same R1200GS-derived 107.3bhp, 1170cc boxer twin motor found in the rest of the retro range.
As for the design, BMW has added a number of Option 719 parts, which is a special bolt-on extra built by BMW. In addition to this, there are also a number of paint-on-chrome finishes for added sparkle and additional durability against corrosion.
The motorcycle includes an 18-litre fuel tank, which features black and chrome, plus twin white pin striping. Riders also benefit from knee pads like the models of yesteryear, and special badging to mark the anniversary. The black front mudguard also gets a white double lining that adds to the look. Meanwhile, for the rear seat hump, it gets a chrome finish providing small rider support at the rear of the two-tone front seat. For the contrasting effect, the sparkly chrome is blacked-out fork tubes and air intake snorkel. The Option 719 parts include milled cylinder head covers, bar end mirrors, adjustable levers and more. Riders also get BMW’s optional Comfort Package. This includes heated grips, cruise control and more.
R18 100 Year Edition
The R18 100 Year Edition will cost close to GBP 20,400. This 1802 cc boxer cruiser will arrive sometime in March and also gets a 100-year badge on the tank, plus a black and deep red single seat with diamond embossing. There are also chrome touches on everything starting from the handlebar fittings to the gearshift and the engine cases, to the cylinder heads. Even the exhaust pipes get chrome with special Akrapovič silencers providing the soundtrack. Other key upgrades find cornering headlights, a reverse function, cruise control and heated grips.
