Spotted on the streets completely undisguised ahead of the official launch, this is the all-new Audi A8 L 55 TFSI variant coming to our market. Audi currently doesn’t have the A8 listed for our market at the moment, but the nameplate will make a comeback with this A8 L 55 TFSI iteration. Obviously, it would be a BS6 compliant luxury limousine, but the brand will only launch a petrol motor as Audi is yet to decide the future of their products with a diesel engine here in India.
Powering the 2020 Audi A8 L 55 TFSI would be a 3.0L, 6-cylinder, turbocharged, aluminium alloy made engine producing 335 HP of power and 369 lb-ft of torque. The engine will be matched to a 48-volt mild hybrid system and this will help this super long sedan achieve a 0-60 mph time of 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph. The Audi A8 L 55 TFSI will be matched to a 8-speed tiptronic gearbox with Quattro AWD. The 2020 sedan is built on a new steel, aluminium and carbon composite chassis with adaptive air suspension as standard while the higher variants get predictive air suspension. For enhanced dynamics, the Audi 55 TFSI also comes with all-wheel steering. This model has a kerb weight of 4773 lb and a drag coefficient of 0.27 Cd.
On the outside, the Audi A8 L 55 TFSI will adorn 19″ alloy wheels, singleframe front grille, LED headlamps with high-beam assist, LED tail lamps, dynamic turn indicators, soft-closing door mechanism, powered tailgate and a healthy dose of chrome accents. With the executive package, the new Audi A8 L will get a 22-way electric adjustment for the front seats with heating and ventilation. The cabin will get its upmarket feel thanks to contour LED lights, dualpane acoustic glass which is break proof, heated steering wheel, head-up display, top-view 360-degree camera, valetta leather upholstery, 4-zone climate control, power tilt & telescopic steering column, wooden and aluminium inlays, panoramic sunroof, 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, 12.3″ digital display for the virtual cockpit plus, dual centre console MMI screens with haptic feedback, etc. For safety, the 2020 Audi A8 L 55 TFSI will come with 9 airbags, child seat anchors & tethers, stability control, brake assist, traction control, ABS with EBD and BA, TPMS, electric park brake and rear view camera.
Audi will launch the new A8 L in India next week, in the run up towards the Auto Expo 2020. Pricing is expected to be in the range of INR 1.2 – 1.5 crore, ex-showroom. This luxury limousine rivals the likes of BMW 7-Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Jaguar XJ.
