Ather Energy is developing another electric scooter, likely to be sold alongside the popular Ather 450X. Designs of the new electric scooter have emerged on the internet that show a new contemporary design language. The scooter appears larger than the current flagship model and is likely to feature a maxi-scooter design.
According to the spied images, the new Ather Energy scooter comes with a large front apron. The large apron appears to integrate a tall windscreen that protects the instrumentation. The windscreen is also likely to protect the rider from wind and weather and make the scooter more aerodynamic. Lower wind resistance means more range as the electric powertrain needs to work less against the elements.
The front apron also appears to house horizontal LED headlamps that wrap the front of the scooter. The headlamp unit is likely to integrate the LED daytime running lights and turn indicators. The scooter appears to come with a flat bench seat, upright handlebars and pillion grab rails. The images also show a generous footboard, large alloy wheels and disc brakes. The new scooter is also likely to come with a large under-seat storage compartment.
The scooter is also likely to feature a touchscreen instrumentation system with the latest connectivity features and over the air updates. The instruments display comes with features such as navigation, speed, range, state of charge, etc. The scooter will also come with multiple riding modes similar to the 450X and come with onboard diagnostics.
Ather’s flagship scooter the 450X features a 6 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor. The motor is capable of producing 26 Nm of torque and draws power from a 2.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The powertrain is powerful enough to propel the scooter from 0-40 kmph in just 3.3 seconds. the electric scooter also claims a range of 116 km, according to the Indian Drive Cycle. However, the true range is close to 85 km in city conditions. The new Ather scooter is likely to come with a larger battery pack and a more powerful electric motor.
