Aprilia could be working on a new retro-roadster mid-spec motorcycle. According to spy shots, the retro-roadster motorcycle is likely to use the recently launched Aprilia RS 457 as its base. However, only the underpinnings are likely to be the same. The Italian manufacturer is likely to completely overhaul the body design and even the suspension characteristics. But, to balance the economies of scale, Aprilia is likely to use the same brake components, front suspension, and a steel chassis with modifications.
According to the spy shots, the test mule appears to be a pre-production model with a lot of retro-fitted parts. The motorcycles features a round headlamp and a straight handlebar. The test bike also comes with a new twin-pot taillamp and naked styling with minimal body panels. Also, the engine and exhaust system appears from the RS 457. However, the brand is likely to offer a well-designed and aesthetically beautiful exhaust and engine cover in the final production version.
In addition to the design aspects, the retro-roadster also gets decentralised rear suspension system with twin shock absorbers. Aprilia is likely to tune the suspension dynamics specifically to the new motorcycle as well. We can also see a 1-dimensional position sensitive device such as a linear potentiometer installed on the front and rear suspensions, that will provide data for such a purpose. Also, the chassis is likely to be steel instead of aluminium, but the brake systems appear to be Bybre, similar to the RS 457. Expect the engine to be the same 47 PS twin-cylinder engine with liquid cooling.
In the Indian market, the brand is likely to compete with the Royal-Enfield 650 Twin’s. Rumours suggest that the Retro-Roadster is likely to make its market debut in 2025. Aprilia is likely to launch the bike in the Indian market helping the company expand its portfolio in the country. However, the target market is likely to be Europe, thanks to its A2 Licence compatibility. Prices are likely to be in the INR 3.75 lakh to INR 4 lakh range.
