Android Auto to be updated

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Google’s Android Auto has become very popular and the most sought after in-car connectivity suite as it provides access to the user’s smartphone apps and extends its features and ease of use through the cars infotainment system. Android Auto was introduced in 2015 and now it will be getting an update for improved features and a new theme.

The new Android Auto update will boast a new user interface with an intuitive icon style appearance found on most Android-powered smartphones. The old interface had a card styled theme which is now discarded in favour of the new one. It is expected to come in a new dark theme which is quite popular these days with many smartphones. A new navigation bar which is placed at the bottom of the screen will have music player controls. The turn by turn navigation system can now be used along with other apps on the same screen. A new notification centre will be dedicated to provide with missed call information, messages and other alerts.

The only major feature it misses out on is wireless connectivity which is offered by Apple CarPlay. Android has already displayed this improved version of the Android Auto in 2019 I/O Developer Conference. The update will be rolled out later this month to more than 500 cars from 50 different brands which offer Android Auto support, as claimed by Google.
