All-new Kia Sportage SUV revealed with ADAS features

The all-new Kia Sportage urban SUV has made its debut in the international market. The 5th-generation Sportage comes with a plethora of exterior and interior features along with a new all-terrain mode and ADAS safety technologies. The brand boasts that the 5th-generation SUV takes a bold approach in terms of design and comes with innovative and cutting edge technology. In addition to this, the Sportage is also set to become one of the safest vehicles in its category, thanks to protective driving technology. 

Kia Sportage – Design Highlights

Kia reveals that its designers drew inspiration from the EV6 and utilises the Opposites United, Kia’s new design language. On the outside, the SUV sets a dramatic tone for the next generations Kia SUV family. The Sportage gets a wide and graphic black grille linking its origins with the modern Tiger Nose design. The SUV also features boomerang-shaped LED DRLs and striking Matrix LED headlamps. The car also gets a muscular swooping fastback design that flows into the razor rear lamps. The Sportage rides on 17-inch, 18-inch or 19-inch wheels, depending on the variant.

Kia Sportage – Interior Space & Features

On the inside, the Kia Sportage comes with 1,050mm legroom for the second row and 1,000mm of headroom. The SUV also comes with 637-litres of luggage capacity, and the rear seats can fold down with the simple press of a button, to maximise cargo space. The Kia Sportage comes with a driver-orientated space and offers contemporary styling, luxury features and premium materials.

The car comes with a curved display with a 12-inch instruments cluster and a 12-inch touchscreen. The centre console on the vehicle is also ergonomically designed and features a shift-by-wire transmission dial. The centre console also comes with a smartphone charging bay, cupholders and soft-touch switches. The Sportage also features a Harman Kardon premium sound system for a fully immersive surround sound experience. 

Kia Sportage – Engine Specifications & Dimensions

Powering the Sportage is a 1.6-litre TGDI powertrain that makes 180 PS of power and 265 Nm of torque. Another option is a 2.0-litre diesel engine with a variable-geometry turbocharger that makes 186 Hp of power and 417 Nm of torque. The brand offers a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (7DCT) on the petrol engine. At the same time, the diesel model comes with a new 8-speed automatic transmission. The Kia Sportage measures 4,660mm in length, 1,865mm in width, 1,660mm in height and comes with a wheelbase of 2,755mm. 

Kia Sportage – Terrain Mode & Electric Control Suspension

The new N3 architecture offers features such as an all-new Terrain Mode. The advanced Terrain Mode automatically adjusts the Sportage’s settings depending on the terrain. The vehicle realises optimal driving dynamics for any given road condition and environment. This includes snow, mud and sand. The Sportage also comes with a new Electric Control Suspension (ECS) that offers continuous damping control in real-time. Also, an electronic 4WD system makes sure the power is optimally distributed between the front and rear wheels. 

Kia Sportage – Passive, Active & ADAS Safety Technologies

The brand’s in-house developed Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technology helps the Sportage protect the occupant from potential hazards. The ADAS system comes with a Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Highway Driving Assist (HDA), Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), a new Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM), Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) etc. In addition to this, the Sportage also gets driver airbags, passenger airbags, side curtain airbags and low-side airbags. To top it all off, the brand also The Sportage features a reinforced and lightweight body structure with high torsional strength as well as a safety restraint and structure system.
