Maruti Suzuki India Limited sold 1,70,395 cars in March 2022

Maruti Suzuki has released its sales report for March 2022 and FY 22, when the brand sold 170,395 units. For the given month, the carmaker posted a total sales of 137,658 units in the domestic market, exports of 26,496 units and sales to other OEMs of 6,241 units. In terms of financial year performance, Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 1,652,653 units, which results in a growth of 13.4 per cent compared to FY 21.

Of all sales, 1,365,370 units were for the domestic market, meanwhile, the brand sold 48,907 to other OEMs. Interestingly Maruti Suzuki posted its highest ever export figure of 238,376 units for FY 22. Maruti Suzuki mentioned that the shortage in supply of electronic components did impact the production of the vehicles. But the company is taking all necessary steps to mitigate the risk, thus minimising the impact.

Sales Report In Detail

In the mini segment that comprises the Alto and S-Presso, Maruti Suzuki posted a total sales of 15,491 units for March 2022. The same for March 2021 stood at 24,653 units. The compact segment comprises Baleno, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Tour S, Dzireand WagonR. For this, the carmaker posted a total sales volume of 82,314 units. The figure for the same period last year stood at 82,201 units. In the mid-size segment that comprises only Ciaz, Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 1,834 units, up from 1,628 units for March 2021.

Ertiga, Gypsy, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza, and XL6 make up the Utility vehicle segment. For this, the carmaker sold a total of 25,001 units, down from 26,174 units for March 2021. Eeco is the only offering in the van segment that sold a total of 9,221 units. The figure for March 2021 stood at 11,547 units. Accounting for all the above segments that make up the domestic passenger vehicle sales, the figure stood at 1,33,861 units.

The Road Ahead

Being India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki is a major payer in the domestic market. There’s has been significant interest in electric mobility across various carmakers, but Maruti Suzuki. The carmaker seems to wait a bit longer so that the industry becomes more robust and the prices of the batteries come down. This will enable them to produce EVs at a much more competitive price, which is also one of their USPs.
