BS6 BMW Motorrad G310R Ride Review

When BMW Motorrad introduced the 2020 BS6 emission compliant G 310 R, last year, the motorcycle not only came with upgrades but also a heavy price cut. Yes, where all manufacturers were increasing their prices BMW Motorrad actually slashed the prices on the G 310 R. The move attracted a lot of buyers and the motorcycle is now back in demand. Recently, we got the chance to road test the 2020 BMW G 310 R. In this video we talk about all the changes BMW has made to the motorcycle and also how the G 310 R rides in a detailed review.

2020 BMW G 310 R Engine Specifications

Powering the BMW Motorrad G 310 R is a BS6 emission-compliant 313cc reverse-inclined single-cylinder motor. The engine comes with a four-valve DOHC distribution system and liquid cooling to optimise thermodynamic efficiency. The motor produces 34 HP of power and 28 Nm of torque hence retaining the output from the BS4 engine. The fuel-injected engine also gets a new ‘Electronic Throttle Grip’ a Throttle-By-Wire system that offers a more sensitive throttle action. The gearbox remains the same 6-speed unit but gains an Anti-Hopping slipper/assist clutch for smoother clutch operation. BMW Motorrad also claims that the brand has worked to ‘refine’ the engine as well.

Chassis, Suspension and Braking

The BMW Motorrad G 310 R features a tubular steel chassis with the engine as a load-bearing unit. The chassis and drive unit ride on 41mm upside-down front fork units with a Gold finish that offers 140mm of wheel travel. On the rear, the G 310 R features a preload-adjustable monoshock directly mounted to a die-cast aluminium swingarm and offers 131mm of suspension travel. The motorcycle also comes with 17-inch aluminium alloy wheels on both the front and rear shod in road-biased tyres. The BMW Motorrad G 310 R comes with a 300mm single disc brake on the front and a 240mm single disc brake on the rear equipped with a BMW Motorrad ABS (Dual Channel) for safety.

New Features for 2020

The BMW Motorrad G 310 R comes in three upgraded colours – Cosmic Black, Style Sport (Limestone Grey/Red) and Polar White. The motorcycle also gets a BMW LED headlamp and smoked LED turn indicators, new for 2020. Also new are the switchgear, new throttle-by-wire technology and adjustable clutch and brake levers. The engine also comes with slipper and assist technology and BMW claims that it is more refined compared to the predecessor.

Price

The 2020 BMW Motorrad G 310 R BS6 made its debut at the price of INR 2.45 lakh ex-showroom. But BMW at the beginning of 2021 hiked the price of the naked roadster by INR 5,000 bringing the ex-showroom cost to INR 2.50 lakh.
